Meet Our Team


  • Carter Smith,

    Dr. Smith was born and raised in St. Louis, graduated from John Burroughs School and earned a B.A. from the College of Wooster in Ohio. He attended veterinary school for two years at the University di Pisa in Italy before transferring back to the University Of Missouri College Of Veterinary Medicine and graduating in 1980. Dr. Smith has owned the Ellisville Veterinary Hospital since 1985. He lives with his wife Heidi. Both of whom provide a comfortable sofa to their son's dog Grover. When not in the office, Dr. Smith enjoys gardening, collecting comics, watching classic horror films, and traveling around the country to visit his 8 grandchildren.

  • Doug Krofft,

    Dr. Krofft is originally from St. Joseph MO., graduated from the University Of Missouri School Of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. He previously attended Missouri University at Columbia where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. Upon graduation from veterinary college, Dr. Krofft joined the Ellisville Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Krofft has served as the vice president, president and board member of the Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association. He lives in Ballwin with his wife and two children. They share their home with an Italian Greyhound (Ella the Angel) and one cat (Drake the Lover). Doug enjoys spending time with his family, attending church, sports, waterskiing, and is an avid reader.

  • Zach Whitehead,

    Dr. Whitehead grew up in the Washington, Missouri area where he attended Saint Francis Borgia Regional High School. He then attended the University of Missouri where he completed his undergraduate studies and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 2008. After receiving his D.V.M. degree, he completed an intensive small animal internship at Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Austin Texas. There, he received additional training in such fields as surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, and emergency and critical care. Dr. Whitehead, his wife Melissa, and their daughter Brynlee live with their three dogs: Fuller- a Jack Russell terrier; Nelson - a pomeranian; and Ryder - a rottweiler, and their cat, Mercy. He is a diehard St. Louis Cardinals and Missouri Tiger fan.

  • Craig Hummel,

    Dr. Hummel received his veterinary degree from Purdue University and was in private practice in the Chicago suburbs for 7 years before moving to St. Louis. Professionally, Dr. Hummel has many interests but greatly enjoys surgery, getting to know patients and clients, and equipping clients with all of the tools and information necessary to care for their furry companions. He currently has two dogs of his own and enjoys all things outdoors including hiking, biking, camping, gardening and spending time with his wife and two boys.


  • Kelly Collins,
    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Kelly has put in her time and dedication with EVH since 2008. Outside of EVH, Kelly has her wonderful son Brody to keep her busy! She loves to spend her time baking, reading, relaxing and visiting Missouri wineries with friends, family, and her husband Chad. Kelly’s home is increased with love by her two rescue pit-bulls Kona and Clyde.

  • Matt Deluvia,
    Veterinary Technician

    Matt graduated from Jefferson College in spring of 1999 and has been with the EVH team since spring of 2011. When not caring for patients, Matt enjoys spending time in his garden, hunting for antiques, walking Forest Park & the St. Louis Zoo, exploring eclectic eateries around STL with his husband Joe, and is working towards completing his Bachelors of Science and Nursing. Every day, Matt is welcomed home by his Shih-Tzu Frank, his cat Norman.

  • Jaime Pealo,
    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Jaime joined the Ellisville Team spring of 2017 after graduating from Hickey College. When not lovingly caring for patients, Jaime spends her time gardening, crafting, and exploring the eclectic dining of St. Louis. Jaime’s home is increased with love by her boxer/pitbull mix Trina and her two cats Tessie & Belldandie.

Client Care Specialists

  • Sarah Saak

    Sarah has been with EVH since summer of 2013. Sarah enjoys her time away from work scrapbooking, attending rugby games (where her husband Brian plays), dining at local sushi restaurants with friends and family, and all things Disney. Everyday Sarah is greeted at home by her rescue cat Sully and Xena, her great dane.

  • Toni Reilly

    Toni has been in the veterinary medical field most of her life. With a strong background in equine, Toni was welcomed to the EVH team after many years with Homestead. Outside of work, Toni enjoys time with her 10 grandchildren, reading, gardening, and putting her time and love into St. Louis Support Dogs with her 2 touch therapy canines, Jonah and Handsome. Toni has the pleasure of being welcomed each day by her Portuguese water dog Jonah and a golden retriever Handsome, and 3 loving barn cats.

  • Heather Clark

    Heather was welcomed to the EVH team in summer of 2015 after 10 years of veterinary medical experience. Outside of work, Heather spends her time with her 4 beautiful children (3 boys and 1 girl), taking her kids to 6 flags, going to the St. Louis Zoo, and spending time with friends and family. Everyday Heather is welcomed home by her Pitbull Jade.

  • Lauren Donton

    Lauren is continuously loved by a yorkipoo named Arky. When not at EVH, sheenjoys thrifting and antique hunting, watching documentaries, and findingSTL’s best eats! Lauren’s most recent adventure is a personal onlineantique shop.

  • Alex Sortor,
    Hospital Manager

    Alex was welcomed back to the EVH team in summer of 2015 but started her adventure here in 2009. Alex enjoys her time outside of work baking, crafting, attending concerts, visiting local wineries and watching football with friends and family. At home, Alex is continuously loved by a rescue Pomeranian named Stella.

  • Carol Lambrechts,

    Carol has been with the Ellisville Team for over 11 years. She spends her time outside of the salon crafting, actively participating within her church, spending time with friends & family, and baking homemade pet treats for our wonderful clients. Carol is blessed with constant love from all her wonderful grooming clients.
